At When She Thrives, we believe everyone deserves to thrive, not simply survive, and we work diligently to ensure single mothers and their families are not an exception. Our mission is to empower single mothers to move their families from poverty to prosperity through advocacy, education, personal and professional development.
Over the past several years, we’ve also committed to preventing the challenges related to hunger, homelessness and unemployment through our Growing Through Grants Program. This commitment has become even more essential to the success of the families in our community as the world shifted dramatically in 2020 like it did for The Williams Family.
Mrs. Williams* was living a normal, satisfying life with her family when she unexpectedly became a single mother. Her husband passed from COVID-19 and she found herself financially and food insecure. Because of the fear surrounding the virus, she received no support from her extended family. She was alone; without a car, without her husband, and without a functioning fridge. Everyday she walked to the gas station to fill a small cooler with enough food for her kids. Our Growing Through Grants Program supported her and her children by providing a brand new refrigerator and connecting her with resources for emergency assistance.
